Date

The Date field is used to represent the date and time when the package was created. You should not define it in your control file (unless you are dynamically creating your control file or you use an expression or a variable for the date.)

Debian expects the date to be written using RFC 2822 as the date and time format. At this time it is not enforced but we may add some check later to make sure that the Date can be read (in case you specify it.)

The field is always present in a package since wpkg adds this field if it is not defined.
